Working with Bill T. Jones has always been complicated. There's a story behind his dances, and what Bill says is not always obvious; and it seems to change over time. I've worked with the company for more than 10 years and each time I photograph a dance, it appears different than the time before. New dancers, interpreting the steps and adding their own stories to the choreography; it keeps me on my toes. I can't prepare in advance and I think that's a good thing when photographing the company. Whether it's a premiere or a dance from thirty years ago, Bill's work always seems fresh. I follow his lead, photographing the work on stage, always as something new.
