I hardly knew either Alexis Convento or Betheny Merola when I photographed this rehearsal but I felt a closeness to both dancers that typically only happens after working together for months.  I quickly learned to move through the space with the women as they danced and worked out their choreography.  We talked on and off during the afternoon, something that rarely happens when I photograph a rehearsal.  It made working together more personal.  It allowed me to get in close, making the dance a portrait; something I love to do.  This shoot came at a time when I was "stuck" in a period where I felt my work lacked creativity.  The warmth of these women and the quality of their movement brought me back to the place I needed to be.
